Members of the Ghana Medical Association have embarked on a nationwide strike over government’s failure to provide them with their conditions of service.
But their intended strike action has been described as one that can only originate from minds which are not serious by the Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress, Solomon Nkansah.
A crunch meeting with the Ministers of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance and Health and the doctors on Wednesday ended in a deadlock.
For this reason, the General Secretary of GMA Dr. Frank Serebour has said that they have activated their road map which in the third week, leads to their resignation en masse.
“By the end of June 2015, if we didn’t have conditions of service in place we will take certain decisions that will shake the entire system. At that point the negotiations had started so we extended the deadline to today 6pm but as we speak, the conditions of service has not been fully negotiated and signed- what it means is that the road map is activated so it’s in force.”
But speaking on Peace FM’s evening political talk programme dubbed ‘The Platform’, Solomon Nkansah minced no words accusing members of the GMA as professionals in bed with the New Patriotic Party.
“Their leader Dr Kwabena Opoku Edusei is part of the NPP’s manifesto planning committee and that is it,” he simply said.
According to him, it is about time Ghanaians took actions to make our doctors “reason”.
“It is about time we speak hard to people to reason. I wonder what has changed that they (GMA) don’t have good leaders who love this country. They (GMA) love their political party more than this country,” he lamented.
