Questions are being raised about the source of income of the ex-Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Kwabena Awuku, to be putting a huge mansion on a prime land at Nmai Djorn, near the plush Trasacco Valley Estate in Accra, even though he is unemployed.
The plot and the building said to be a six bedroom has been priced at a whopping US $3 million.
Family sources say Mr. Awuku, who is also a student studying Bachelor of Law with the University of London, through Distance Learning, bought the juicy roadside land from Peace FM’s “Kokroko” Morning Show host, Kwami Sefa Kayi, valued at hundreds of United States Dollars.
The Herald was also told that the building was started early this year, by the less than 30-year old politician, who has not worked before, since leaving University of Ghana, some five years, ago.
Angry NPP youth elements drew The Herald’s attention to Sammi Awuku’s mansion, virtually crying that something is amiss, especially so when he has been chorusing abject poverty. One of them who has taken pictures of the impressive mansion with phone could not hide his shock. He simply told The Herald that “chief we are being fooled by this boy”.
A visit to the site of the remarkable building, shows it is almost completed. It has been roofed and the windows fitted with expensive burglar-proof.
It has a summer hut, a security post and a 20-footer metal container built into the tall wall to serve as a provision shop possibly for his wife, whom he married in July last year, at a lavish wedding at the Liberty Assemblies of God Church, Abeka Lapaz – Accra.
Two imposing metal gates are already at the site to be fixed at the two main entrances created on the tall wall erected round the mansion built by a man, who’s only known job is to appear on radio and television platforms on behalf of the NPP, to howl joblessness and poverty.
Parts of the building, have started receiving paints, meaning all things being equal, Mr. Awuku will soon vacate his Adenta residence and take occupation of a luxurious edifice built by him, while unemployed and poverty stricken.
Neighbours said, he was last seen at the site last week Thursday. The building shares a wall with a Savings and Loans company called “Union Savings and Loans”.
Just last week, Mr. Awuku was reported to have said that he knew that Mahama’s government was going to perform abysmally, but did not anticipate it to rise to this level, describing President Mahama as leading the country in an “abyss”.
“I knew the Mahama-led administration will be a disaster, but never thought it will be of such catastrophic proportions. It’s obvious they (NDC) did not strategize….and we (Ghanaians) are suffering. We need to pray because I see this government leading us into an abyss,” he said.
Though Mr Awuku’s source of funds for the roadside building is not readily known, this paper’s information emanating from the NPP circles indicates that he may have raised the funds from monies, which were supposed to have been allocated to members of the Communication Team.
Reports say most of the NPP communicators are very much aggrieved as they are wondering how a young man like him could outsmart them when they are all doing the same work for the party, without even pocket money from anyone.
The same man in July last year, after claiming the late President John Atta Mills, had failed to better the lives of Ghanaians, organized a lavish Arabian style wedding with his Banker girlfriend, Mary Akosua Adanse Anane. It was attended by ex-President John Kufuor, his late Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama and many other prominent NPP members.
He used expensive cars including, high-fuel burning Range Rover vehicles and had bridesmaids and groomsmen numbering close to 15.
Meanwhile, there are reports that some monies said to have come from companies whose owners are sympathetic to the NPP have all been squandered by Mr Awuku, who is vying for the NPP Youth Organizer slot, with a slogan “Boys Abre, Girls Abre” (to wit boys are tired, girls are tired of poverty).
There are also claims that during the election petition hearing, Mr. Awuku solicited for a lot of money for and on behalf of the NPP for advocacy for Nana Akufo-Addo on various media platforms, which later caused him to appear before the nine Supreme Court judges after his contemptuous statement.
More to come!
