The Ghana Urban Water Company Limited (GUWC) has assured its workers that its merger with the Ghana Water Company Limited GWCL will not result in job cuts.
The two entities had earlier called for a merger following what they call a duplication of duties and a drain on the companies’ resources.
Cabinet early on approved the merger to improve management of water in the country.
Responding to concerns that the merger will force the companies to lay off some workers, the Communications Manager for the GUWC, Stanley Martey said plans are in progress to ensure that no staff loses their jobs.
“Nobody is going to lose his job; we still have vacancies; after the merger, we will be able to fill in all our vacancies and we should not have a situation where anybody will lose his job.”
The merger is also expected to attract more investments to improve water treatment and distribution Ghana.
According to Mr Martey, all workers and the public are been assured that nobody is going to lose his job.
